“Human presence is a creative and turbulent sacrament, a visible sign of invisible grace”. John O'Donohue

I am thinking about giving myself a challenge. To go without food for a whole day. Just one day. A Muslim friend suggested it because we were discussing Ramadan, The Islamic month of fasting and prayer, which began on Friday. During the hours between dawn and dusk, no food or drink (including water) is taken and the adherents must also refrain from sexual activity. During these summer months (whether there is sun or not) the days are long and the period of fasting tough to observe. By setting aside the (base) needs of the body and by devoting oneself to prayer, the belief is that this practice brings the faithful closer to closer to their spiritual identity and closer to God.
